In an almost unbelievable development, sitting IAAF Senior Vice President Bob Hersh kicked to the curb by the USATF Board of Directors, ignoring Hersh's overwhelming 392-79 (83%) support of the membership as USATF's candidate for IAAF council. SMDH

That's not a slap to the face of most respected man in USATF's hierarchy - that's a shotgun to the temple

According to the news appearing in Day's Best Reading on the front page, the vote was actually 392-70, which would be 85%.

Karma dictates Hightower will not get enough support to be elected to IAAF council. Not an unlikely scenario, considering the shameful treatment of the universally respected Hersh

I usually do not wish that people encounter poor fortune but in this case ....

It's a lose-lose situation. We as an organization are better off if she does get elected than if she does not and we have NO voice on the Council. But this all may backfire big time and make her unelectable.

Do I think Stephanie on the Council is better than Bob on the Council? No.

Why didn't she just wait until Bob retired from the spot? Maybe because her term as president will be ending in two years. If she is elected to the IAAF Council, she is guaranteed a spot on the USATF Board of Directors, and could also be elected Board Chair by the other members.

She's thinking about what is best for her, not what is best for this organization.

Karma has nothing to do with it. Well, maybe it does, but the main problem is that the troglodytic voters who decide things at the IAAF level have never elected a woman to the Council, proper, ever. they had to create a special women's vote. If Hightower gets in, it will be through that back door. And that door does not lead to a VP position, let alone Senior VP, which Hersh has won, beating both Coe and Bubka last time around, I might add.

But I'm biased, so I'll STFU at this point.
