I'd love to see him win in a sub 27:00 race...but don't think it's going to happen.
It is hard to draw a firm conclusion from Oxy. Take a runner from the cool Pacific Northwest and then set him in a race on a track that was blisteringly hot still and with the air temp (airport or track??) of 84F/29C. It is one thing to run reasonably well at the Olympics in warm weather, it is another to do well in an early-season hot race coming from cool weather and not trying to prep for hot conditions.

So Rupp is not in the 5K, and Cain and Centro are not in the 1500/mile. Is this right? IMHO, not the way to promote the sport. Someone--well-known-- recently said that Track and Field is a sport run by insiders, for insiders. Anyone remember who said this?? It's a good quote, and often true--IMHO, of course.

the host site still list's cain and centro in the 1500/mile, rupp is doing the 10k instead of the 5k which is fine let the hometown hero run his best event in front of his fans, dont see anything wrong with that. http://preclassic.runnerspace.com/eprof ... ent_id=120

What, why is the fact that Rupp is running the 10,000 rather than the 5000 such a negative? Is Centro not in the mile, or not in the one you are looking at?

Then there is this from :

    Paul Tanui (Kenya) 26:50.63
    Emmanuel Bett (Kenya) 26:51.16

Well, for starters if one is unable to attend the pre-Pre on Friday night they don't get a chance to see two of Nike's biggest stars compete. The featured film--as it were--is on Saturday. Friday's events are the newsreel. And one could argue that Rupp in the 5 and Cain in the 1500 would be more "interesting" races. Just one person's opinion.

Since Cain is still listed in the 1500, is it possible she'll double?
    Martinez did at World Relays!
Maybe, since this is her outdoor "rust buster", she's going to do both as a workout!

I can see her winning the 800, with Price and Vessey her main competition.
And if she comes back in the 1500, she'll place top 5, at least!

As for Rupp, if he's going for the AR, remember what he did indoors.....getting TWO AR's!!
    But who's gonna rabbit?

Given her competition, she'll likely need to be in sub-2:00 and close to 4:00 shape to do what you say. That would be one helluva rust busting workout! Yet she so often exceeds our expectations, so who knows?!!!

Cain is apparently running the 800m tomorrow rather than the 1500m

maybe rupp has some financial incentive to run the 10? and make the day interesting, people might show up. as meet director say i'm looking at several thousand more tickets with rupp in the race, sure thing i'd grease the pot.

or rupp may be not in great 5k shape (blowing out the sprints in practice) but he's going forever in training at 10k record pace.

if you want to take a crack at the 10k record, when are you going to do it? how many chances will you have in europe?

something in there lies the reason. probably.
