10-27-2019 06:28 PMOn the eve of the premiere of the final season of Silicon Valley, HBO is running a marathon of the prior five seasons.
Maybe it has something to do with having a .com startup experience 20 years ago, but for me even a second viewing elicits big laughs.

11-06-2019 11:46 PMhaving not read the written material on Watchmen, I'm still largely in the dark, but after 3 episodes it's quite growing on me.
speaking of dark and of convoluted, I did the premier of His Dark Materials on HBO last night. Has possibilities!

11-07-2019 01:32 AMThere are only two new shows remaining on my weekly regimen:
Bless This Mess, a half-hour sitcom, that I find hysterical (my wife laughs too, but it's mostly at me for liking it so much), and
Stumptown, which I'm surprised I like so much, because it's a pretty standard procedural, but the characters are fascinating.
We are currently bingeing Season 2's 8 episodes of Jack Ryan.

11-07-2019 04:37 AM"Goliath" with Billy Bob Thornton was great the first season, average year two, and really slow paced, boring, David Lynch/Twin Peaks vibe in year three.

11-07-2019 05:06 AMYeah, I'm into Stumptown too. Having nursed a crush on Cobie Smulders since "How I Met Your Mother", I was looking forward to seeing her in a new venue.. and, boy is it different.

11-07-2019 08:49 PMJack Ryan 2 was a shallow, jingoistic, disappointment. I've never read Clancy, just seen the movies based on his books, but I think/hope he was deeper than this. Once again the slogan is: Entertain them don't make them think.

12-01-2019 08:55 PMI highly recommend "Leavenworth" on STARZ. A documentary (5 parts) about one of the soldiers (Lorance) recently pardoned by Trump. It covers many angles, and, what I like most about it, is it lets you make up your own mind.

Yesterday 10:07 PMfarewell to Silicon Valley; wonder if it'll hold up as a worthwhile binger a few years down the road?
