The Tokyo 110 hurdles final was Hayes Jones' last outdoor race of his career. He was always known for his great starts and I believe he had about a meter lead by the first hurdle. Lindgren closed quickly, but ran out of room. Lindgren also leaned too early. Jones was just too fast. I believe he was the best sprinter in that field.

looks like Jones foot is down here - just ahead of Lindgren - assume this is the last hurdle.

still curious about 'the announcement' and the "45 min wait to correct", especially given GHs input

can you cite some/any reports from the time?

a 45-minute delay would have been monstrous news at the time.

I'll get some - surprisingly there are 4-5-6 that I've read ... they seem to be all over the place ,,,, but have to wait til tomorrow - thus my curiosity. It has seemed remarkable that some are stating that but no tfn or other print articles are verifying. AND it would seem if there is any video of said event ... then :?

I'll agree with the supposition that Lindgren himself was the source of misinformation. Perhaps it's just a wishful-thinking-misrembrance.

I don't think these clarify anything. I too thought of Shinnick, but LIndgren doesn't seem to fit the same mold. I've been told that Lindgren lives near where I do - Think I'll try to hook up with him. At the very least this is an interesting 'story' ... to me. It appears to me that the sources are weak at best, due to their similarity to each other. Below are the urls I found - other than the wiki clones.

At the very least it was a great race. It would be nice to be able to trace the genesis of this - as I see it : ducking the tape, announcement, 45 min delay in change - that certainly would have been BIG news. Where's Bud Greenspan when you need him.
