the line is also in error that nboody has run sub-4:00 above 5000ft: Keino did it in both Nairobi and Nyeri (at least).

    Indeed they have....

The biggest reason there hasn't been a sub 4 in Colorado is there aren't any meets there, or at least not since the 1960s....(as a sidenote, the first WR with a fibreglass pole was set on that track.)

One guy ran 4:04 in racing flats in the 1980s on the old flat 220 Potts indoor track.

And he certainly would have done it in Mexico City, along with Ryun, if they had only continued on....

This is from a story about Kyle Merber's speaking to a HS Cross Country team in Westchester (NY) County:

His route to becoming an elite runner began in kindergarten on Long Island, hearing fellow Long Islander Derrick Adkins talk about winning the 400 hurdles gold medal at the 2016 Atlanta Olympics.
The 2016 Olympics were held in Atlanta? How did I miss that?

    This one just boggles:

He’s better known for his fearsome temperament, but ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson revealed his softer side during a day out with his loved ones on Monday.
The former heavyweight boxer, 53, was in attendance at New York’s Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre ahead of the 19th annual USA Track & Field (USATF) Opening Night gala.
When I first read this I wondered why on earth USATF would have a gala at the opening of the US Open tennis tournament? A little thought and a little digging gave me the answer. The gala was in fact held by USTAF, the US Tennis Association Foundation.

Shouldn't that one be in the 'clueless tennis writing' thread?

Ineos 1:59 Challenge News -- the article describes some testing done this weekend by the pacemakers.

"Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest marathon runner of all time, the reigning world and Olympic champion and the current marathon world record holder (2 hours 1 minute and 39 seconds), will bid to become the first human ever to run a sub-two-hour marathon on Saturday 12th October (with a window until 20th October in case of adverse weather conditions)"

Kipchoge, of course, has never even competed in the marathon in the world championships.
