    Trickstat is right, kayaking is determined by speed... I got carried away hating on surf scoring :-)

    That is true. But I could envision having 'beach track', with athletes racing barefoot on sand, wearing swimsuits. I mean, why not? It's what made 'Baywatch' so popular.

    Junior life guard programs in California have sprint aces for "flags" (really pieces of garden hose stuck in the sand)... always fewer flags than kids, sort of musical chairs elimination heats. Lots of fun to watch.
