    Re: States

dj, thanks for the additional NJ sprinters. I think I will take Mitchell and Stanfield.

You are right about Budd's 9.2. It was just a accurate/good as all those other hand times. Did not mean...

    Re: Re:

going from memory but I think Sime and Budd did not make the NJ list. Sime was better than Budd, no question, and Budd's "9.2" at the nationals in NY in 1961 was highly questionable.

    I was there...

    Re: Yashchenko passed away ???

That makes 2 Soviet WR holders in the HJ to die tragically. I remeber that Yuriy Stepanov of 7'1" and built-up shoe fame died from suicide.

Plus of course Brumel's premature passing.

    Igor...

Re: 1956: Rafer, Milt or Mathias

well I looked the '56 OG meet up..... Johnson scratched from the LJ, then later in the week only beat Campbell by 4 points in the Dec. LJ. It was a bad pit ( read article on Bell's win in LJ ) and...

and jhc68, I we you agree with me that since the flop is technically easier, at least at imtermediate level heights, it "helped people like us more than the big boys.

But then maybe not. I just...
  15. Re: Feature article on ,

hijumpfan, if really jumped 2.25 F and 1.98 S, then you never really straddled seriously. Anybody that can flop 2.25 has to have immense jumping talent regardless of style used. 1.98 is light years...

Re: 1956: Rafer, Milt or Mathias

time to do a little research when i get home. Believe Johnson had a bad knee.... how far did he jump in the Dec LJ ? And am I imagining it or did he also finish 3rd in the FOT in the LJ, behind...
  17. Re: Feature article on ,

jhc68, my humble opinion on this whole straddle vs. flop is that the Flop enabled middle-level talented athletes to improve more than the upper levels. Just look how all of as sudden any half decent...

yes mark you figured out the "197"
correctly !! You sure know how to hurt a guy.

  19. Re: Feature article on ,

I agree with mark. I used to desperately open T&FN once a month to get RESULTS. Not any more. I know them already, and instead go to the features.

But then again perhaps the people on this...

That was a pretty easy lookin' 20 flat he ran, for sure.
  21. Re: Feature article on ,

Do a new survey, you might get a different answer. Your magazine is now 25 years older which means you have the potential for many more long time subsribers than you did then.

    Just a thought.

    Re: Ramblin'
