NORMAN, OKLAHOMA, May 12–14 — The weather may have gotten stormy, with a meet delay on day 2, but that didn’t stop Texas Tech from sailing smoothly through the Big 12 competition. Said coach Wes Kittley, “I don’t think we’ve ever scored in every event on the last day, and we scored in every event today.” Altogether, the Red Raiders scored a loop record 179 points, with Texas (125) and Kansas (117) far back.

Speed won the headlines for the Red Raiders, with junior Caleb Dean, a transfer last fall from Maryland, leading a Tech 1-2-3 of the high hurdles in 13.44w and coming back 90 minutes later to PR in the 400H at 48.39. Courtney Lindsey did double duty in the sprints, winning a 10.08w 100 by 0.004 over teammate Terrence Jones in a barely windy (2.1) race as both clocked 10.08. Lindsey sported a bigger lead in the 200, topping Jones 20.12–20.32.

Earlier, the two sprinters pitched in on a winning 4×1 that moved to =No. 7 in collegiate history — and the No. 6 school ever — at 38.24. On the field, the Red Raiders scored big when Zach Bradford of Texas Tech won the vault with an outdoor American collegiate leader of 19-3 (5.87). Junior Devin Roberson won the discus at 194-4 (59.24) and Keyshawn King the triple jump at 52-4 (15.95).

In other highlights, Oklahoma’s Zarik Brown slashed 0.77 off his 400 best with a 44.61 winner. Texas junior Yusuf Bizimana clocked a collegiate leader in the 800, winning handily in 1:45.82. In the 1500, Fouad Messaoudi of Oklahoma State and Ezekiel Rop of Iowa State staged a mighty battle, the Moroccan going around the Kenyan coming off the final turn to win, 3:36.59–3:37.03.

Vernon Turner, now a senior at Oklahoma, took over the top of the collegiate list with his 7-6½ (2.30) high jump; it was his fourth Big 12 title (in/out) in the last two years.
