In their wisdom, the organisers have chosen to have heats to whittle the field down from 17 to 12 (and it turns out to 16 as one athlete DNSs).

The first heat sensibly 'went for it' and with 7th (of 8) running 4.06.6

It looks like Zoe Buckman misread the situation as she's gone 4.11 for 6th in the 2nd heat and missed the final! As has Lucy Van Dalen. I thought US colleges were supposed to breed racing acumen?

I haven't actually seen the race, so perhaps Buckman fell, as she's typically shown good racing smarts.

Melissa Duncan moved to #6 alltime Aussie with her 4.05.76 heat run.

Aths Australia did mention that Buckman 'almost fell'.

The webcast showed just the final 50 meters of Obiri's Meet Record (in a heat, no less!!).
    What a rook!!

As for Buckman, she might have just had a bad day.
Of course, not having seen the race, I'll have to wait for the race report to find out what happened.

I'm not sure it made the difference, though; she was in the lead for most of the first three laps and seemed to have run out of gas by the last lap.

There's reportedly a protest pending on Heat 2. Involves Buckman.

I have no idea how hardcore fans of our sport can keep up, without availing themselves of the Hola unblocker, or a similar VPN device. Sitting here in Canada, which is turning into a barren desert of T&F coverage, I can/do watch virtually every significant event in the Athletics world by "pretending" I'm either in the USA or UK...it is so simple, just saying!
