The indoor season is starting to heat up, so it's about time for a new thread.

Starting with a roundup of the most significant results so far:

Pawe? Wojciechowski is coming back to form after two injury-plagued years. He was the first Polish athlete to get a WIC qualifier this winter with 5.76 in Orleans on 18 Jan, and then cleared 5.75 in Rouen a week later (the competition where Lavillenie got his 6.04). He attacked his NR in both competitions, but didn't get that. Still, it's a great start to a season for an athlete that I had almost written off already, and with his ability to up his game on big occasions, he could well be a medal contender in Sopot.

Kamila Li?winko (formerly Stepaniuk, now married to her coach) set a new NR in HJ in her first competition of the year with 1.96 in Cottbus, beating Danuta Bu?kowska's mark from 1984! Apparently, she didn't prepare specifically for this competition, and she expect to sharpen up her form as the season progresses, so again, she could challenge at the WIC.

Adam Kszczot had a fantastic start to the season with a WL time of 1:45.42 yesterday in Dusseldorf, winning by over a second. Unlike in 2012, this time he is targetting the WIC, so I'm hoping he'll be getting even better over the coming weeks.

Tomasz Majewski also made his season debut in Dusseldorf and placed second with 20.53, behind David Storl. According to his coach's comments made before this meet, Majewski shouldn't be expected to throw far at this point, but his training has been going great and he should be ready to challenge his national indoor record in Sopot.

Two more Polish athletes got WIC qualifiers yesterday: Renata Pli? 4:10.10 at 1500 and Angelika Cichocka 2:01.70 at 800. Cichocka is looking better than she has in a long time, and may finally start to realize her potential now that she started training together with Marcin Lewandowski under tutelage of his older brother.

Lewandowski himself ran the 1500 in Dusseldorf and finished eighth in 3:41.78 after getting pushed around a lot a couple of laps before the end. I doubt he'll be targetting this event in Sopot, so it remains to be seen what he does at 800.

And a quick roundup of other results:

As reported earlier on another thread, Konrad Bukowiecki set a new world youth indoor best in SP with 21.89. He also did 21.83 with the 5k shot at the national youth champs, and set marks of 20.22 with the 6k and 17.29 with the 7.26k.

21-year old Piotr Lisek set a big PB with a vault of 5.70 in Spa?a last weekend.

Justyna ?wi?ty set a national record at 300 with 38.02 in Spa?a. Rafa? Omelko also set a new mark at the same distance for the men with 33.15 In Prague.

Karol Zalewski had two good races at 200 in Austria, running 20.96 and 21.01.

Ewa Swoboda broke the 40-year old (!) national youth record with 7.46 at 60 meters.

Karolina Tymi?ska started her season with 14.30 in SP and 7.55 at 60 meters.

I'm not sure exactly. She competed indoors last year in various events, but her results were not great: 14.29 SP, 5.92 LJ, 9.00 60H. Outdoors, she competed only in JT, with a best of 50.70, but I don't know if she's ever going to do multi events again.

No WR for the Frenchman tonight, although two of his attempts at 6.16 were fairly close. But based on his vaulting in Bydgoszcz, I honestly think the height is in his reach.
1 Renaud Lavillenie FRA 6.08 WL NR
2 Robert Sobera 5.75 PB WIC qualifier
    3 Piotr Lisek 5.68
4 Thiago Braz BRA 5.68 PB
    5 Przemys?aw Czerwi?ski 5.60 SB
    9 Pawe? Wojciechowski 5.40
    LJ
    Teresa Dobija 6.68 PB

So that's three polish polevaulters over 5.70 this indoor season? Just for comparison: ZERO germans managed 5.70 sofar, i get the feeling something is not right. They shouldn't have pissed off Lavillenie in Moscow, now they're paying for it in many ways. 8-)
